As a minister, I consider myself a public servant. I serve in regards to the spiritual needs of the public. I accepted the call to ministry primarily because of my deep love for and obedience to God but also for the deep love that I have for people…ALL people. It pays but I don’t do it for the money. It has its benefits but I don’t do it for the perks. To some people I’m considered important but I don’t do it for status. For me it’s not a PROFESSION, it’s my PASSION. I serve the public because I love the public…ALL of the public. In my opinion, I can ONLY serve the public because of the deep love that I have for them. To me, it’s essential. When it gets difficult (…and trust me, it does) I stop and remind myself WHY I’m doing what I do. It’s not the money…it’s not the perks…it’s not status…it’s my deep love for God and ALL people. Today, I ask EVERY public servant to just stop and reflect on WHY you do what you do. Preachers, do you love ALL of those who attend your place of worship (even the sinners and non-tithe payers)? Teachers, do you love ALL students (even the troublemakers)? Elected officials, do you love ALL voters (even those who didn’t vote for you)? Health Care Professionals, do you love ALL patients (even the uninsured)? Men and Women in Uniform, do you love ALL of those in the community you swore to protect and serve (even those who break the law)? Jesus said it best in Mark 10:45, “For even the Son of man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life a ransom for many.” Is serving the public your PASSION or is it simply just your PROFESSION? As I stated earlier, the news is filled with examples of the latter. #IServeBecauseILoveAll
